Spend Summer on a Farm

You get to spend time on the farm when it is most beautiful - Summer! Green grass, cool breeze, wide open space - Who wouldn’t want to be outdoors?

Sharpen Your Skills

We design our program using the interests and expertise of our staff, which gives you a chance to hoan your skills and practice your passions. Interested in making yogurt? Lead a yogurt-making activity! Interested in Theatre? Design an activity around playwriting or improv! We will teach you the skills needed to run a successful program around whatever excites you!

Generous Time Off

Our Cownselors work hard, so we make sure they get adequate time off to rest.

What you’ll be doing

We look to our staff to lead the fun, and provide a safe and exploratory environment for campers. We are looking for responsible young leaders, comfortable running activities on their own and working closely with a co-counselor to look after 10 girls in a cabin.

You’ll arrive a week before camp begins for Staff Training. We’ll teach you everything you need to know about working on the farm, and we’ll have some team bonding fun.

You will learn about agriculture and dairy farming first-hand, and be working closely with the camp director, who is a fabulous professional reference for future roles. Previous staff members have gone on to work as veterinarians, producers (one for Netflix), actors on Broadway, creative directors, teachers, and more. We’ve heard from many of our former staff members that having the farm on your resume is a real conversation starter in a job interview–it certainly helps you stand out!

Responsibilities:

  • Look after 30 girls as part of a team of 7 staff members

  • Work seamlessly with your co-cownselors and CITs (cownselors-in-training) as a team to make it the best summer ever for our campers

  • Facilitate a fun and exploratory environment where campers are encouraged to ask questions and explore

  • Monitor campers closely during off-farm excursions

  • Design and run 3-5 activities a week based on your skills and experiences (could be arts & crafts, cooking, theatre, science, writing, athletics, etc.)

  • Lead the fun!

Who we are

We are a small dairy farm that doubles as a summer sleepaway camp for girls age 7-14 during the summer months. Our mission is to empower young women, increase confidence and celebrate uniqueness through hard work and fun! Summers on the farm include farm activities like working with animals and farm chores, as well as traditional camp experiences like bonfires, songs and arts & crafts. We are a small program, with a staff of 10-12 strong women looking after 30 campers. Check out our summer camp section for more info on our program.


Seeking Culinary Intern

Hiring an experienced chef who is passionate about cooking, sourcing local ingredients, and developing weekly menus.

Highlights

Raw Milk & Local Ingredients

Hone your culinary craft using fresh raw milk from our cows. Former chefs have specialized in cheese making, yogurt, and gourmet butter, as they got to know the cows and grass from which it came. We will introduce you to neighboring producers to help you build your network of suppliers.

We design our program using the interests and expertise of our staff, which gives you a chance to hone your skills and practice your passions. Whether it is a certain type of cuisine, ingredient, or course, we want you to spend time developing your skills.

What you’ll be doing

You’re the director in the kitchen, responsible for planning and preparing meals for 50+ people. You’ll design menus in advance and work closely with a local cooking staff to execute 3 meals per day. You’ll also be master of the garden, utilizing produce from our three on-farm gardens for your menus, with the help of our resident gardener. Finally, you’ll lead 3-5 cooking activities per week, working with a group of campers to help prepare dinner or dessert.

As part of our camp staff, you will be expected to attend some all-camp activities. We look to our staff to lead the fun, and provide a safe and exploratory environment for campers age 7-14.

Working at Hameau is a tremendous opportunity for personal and career growth. We encourage you to bring and pursue your passions while on the farm (love pastry? Build it into the menu!) You will learn about agriculture and dairy farming first-hand – using our fresh milk, eggs, and produce in your dishes. You will also be working closely with the camp director, who might become a professional reference for future roles.

Responsibilities:

  • Building weekly menus for a 6-week summer program (meals can be repeated) and 1 week of staff training

  • Planning and preparing 2-3 meals for 50 people, daily

  • Managing and communicating with local cooking staff who will help with breakfasts and baking where needed

  • Tending three (pre-planted) vegetable gardens, harvesting the produce and incorporating it into the menu

  • Supporting local agriculture by familiarizing yourself with the locally-made produce and pantry items, and incorporating those foods into the menu

  • Weekly grocery shopping

  • Grocery budgeting (being respectful of weekly budgets)

  • Running culinary-themed activities 3-5 times per week with a small group of campers (age 7-14) (this can range from butter-making to dinner prep to dessert-making)

Seeking Barn Staff

Seeking Barn Staff - year-round

Year-round, flexible schedule

Requirements: Dependable, calm around animals, good communicator, team player.

What you’ll be doing

You’d be part of our barn staff, who milk and care for our herd of 40 cows, and do farm chores (feeding animals) twice per day. We work on a rotation, you’d be on the schedule based on your availability. There are two shifts per day: 5-8am and 3-6pm.

Most importantly, we need someone who is dependable. If you are on the schedule, you need to show up on time for your shift. The cows need to be milked and animals need to be fed on time! We are a small farm and our animals are part of the family, we expect our team to treat them accordingly.

Milking experience is preferred, but not necessary. There will be a training period for any new team member.

Responsibilities:

  • Milking 40 cows, prepping the milkhouse and cleaning the barn afterwards

  • Completing farm chores - feeding and bedding animals, collecting eggs

  • Dependably show up for shifts

  • Communicate your availability at least a week before milking schedule is made

  • Work closely with other members of the barn staff, communicating seamlessly

  • Treat animals with kindness and patience
